Location
In the diverse Northwest Region of Louisiana, called "Ark-La-Tex," lay the 10 northwest parishes of Caddo, Bossier, Sabine, Desoto, Bienville, Claiborne, Webster, Natchitoches, Lincoln and Red River.
Industry
While cotton may still be grown here, it is timber that is now king and the largest employer of any industry in the region. Every major timber related industry has a presence in the area, all taking advantage of this region's abundant growing season. Ark-La-Tex" is probably the most diverse region in the state in that it has a strong manufacturing base with several Fortune 100 company plants in the area.
Transportation
A large air force base, Barksdale, is the headquarters for the 8th Air Force. Shreveport also has a regional airport that is serviced by over five major airlines. The Shreveport-Bossier area has become a major medical center for a three-state region. The northwest region is also a shipping hub and will become an even greater one when Interstate 69 is completed, which will give the area a total of three interstates that will be readily accessible.
Ports
With its several ports, the Red River waterway offers barge access to the Gulf of Mexico and the rest of the world.
Education
Along with our numerous vocational/technical schools, six universities are in the area offering degrees in a variety of fields, all of which provide productive working relationships with the many businesses in the region.
